Just came back from 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. For once everyone who watched the movie with me thought that it was really bad! I have an aversion towards fictional movies for some reason. Never been a big fan of trilogies governing some rings or even Harry.
The whole world just loves these movies. I really cannot appreciate the story in these movies because after some time I realise that anything is possible in the movie ... everyone can do magic in the movie and so there are no limits!
Why do only I think of these movies in this way? Why does everyone else love them ?
Am I really missing something here?

hmm....fantasy is a whole different genre of fiction. the writer is judged by how well she can build a world out of the readers imagination, which is a difficult task by itself. think of it as a painter with a white canvas; he has unlimited freedom to put any color wherever he chooses - simple in theory, but still not everyone of us can be a picasso.
think about when you read a book, say a spy novel...you can imagine easily what is going on, because you have seen similar stuff. but in a fantasy, there is no "been there, seen that" scenario....as a reader you have to be explained in detail, every bit of the writers vision, and still you have a lot left to your interpretation...and that is what pulls the fans.
hmm....saw the movie two days ago. wasnt on the scale of the LOTR trilogy, or even the Harry Potter series - but with good effects and a decent story, it wasnt a bad watch. at least will wait for the next movie before I judge the series as a whole.
I have not seen the movie yet, but most of these stories are targeted towards the kids ...it's theme being like the fairytales which all have a happy ending..The purpose is to keep HOPE alive..that GOOD OVERCOMES EVIL, it lets you believe that you can make your DESIRE come true...coz your mind can be moulded when you are young and we would all want to keep the flame of HOPE burning..and like reves said...they give adults an opporuntiy of being a child..an opportunity to become optimistic if they have been pessimists for long, an opportunity to hope anything is possible
